ABOUT US

Where do we even start?

In September 2020, between a lockdown and... another lockdown, the three of us moved to Ireland and instantly fell in love with it. A month later, Seth Harbinger of Chaos was born and another month later made his way to our (foster) home and into our hearts. Scoundrel and Seth bonded and we were four, looking for a place of our very own.

An architect with a passion for industrial buildings and a conservation accreditation and a future ecologist, both with an interest and experience in wildlife rehabilitation, we naturally started looking for somewhere that would seamlessly blend all of our interests and an old watermill, with the extra watery habitats, seemed like the perfect target.

We scoured old maps and travelled up and down the nearby counties, looking for mill (and meeting a lot of wonderful people in the process), hoping one would be up for grabs.

Needless to say, we were incredibly lucky!

The purchase process was a bureaucratic nightmare but we could not have asked for a better place to (in the near future) call home!

Here begins our journey of observing, learning, DIY, listening to rushing water, mixing lime mortar, watching the sunset, posting time-lapse videos and epic fails, stressing about funds, watching wildlife by the mill race, writing grant applications, mixing more lime mortar, drinking wine and whatever else life throws at us.

Feel free to share this journey with us through our blog, or come help mix some lime mortar.

      ROTHAÍ ENTERPRISE

Rothaí Enterprise (tribute to Star Trek Enterprise rather than some big chain corporation), is a name we chose for our partnership, to keep the venture finances separate from our private finances.

Time will tell if this was a good idea. This is all new to us and we learn as we go…
