Our new website is here!
And with it, a little logo.
"Rothaí" is not the mill's real name. It is a working name we gave it for the time being. It means "wheels" in Irish and, apart from the obvious waterwheels, it's also quite symbolic to the cycle of life and coming in and out of use.
Here, we would like to share our progress... the ups and the downs... the ins and the outs... of one conservation journey. Already it's shaping out to be quite dramatic.
Since the purchase closed, there hasn't been a dry day!
We will be bringing you the story of how, with the prospect of ongoing rain, and "severe flooding" reports throughout the county, we decided to tackle the water, when it was at its highest.
Spoiler! We didn't.
But we did tackle it when it was at its second highest. We also missed out on tackling it when it was still low, and it might have just saved the day. But that's a story for another post.
We will also be sharing our struggles with funding and lending institutions, known all too well to anyone that has ever tried to purchase and restore a derelict village.
We'll probably make a bunch of mistakes. We will try not to, but let's face it, there's scope. Hopefully none will be too bad. But if you want reassurance that you're not the only one, or merely enjoy a bit of schadenfreude, this is where you will find material.
We will also be creating YouTube content and embedding it here. Lots of videos of us moving super fast which, apparently, are really in. We're YouTube beginners but we hear that subscribers are good. So please subscribe to our channel.
