We’ve been a little quiet for a few weeks. Not because we haven’t been working, but because we’ve been working so hard getting ready for the season we had no time to prepare videos or even write coherent text.
In the past ten days especially (a week ago now - thats how long it took me to finish this post, complete with pictures), we’ve has some keen labourers helping!
We managed to:
Tidy up the “orientation area” at the end of our driveway - it had a pile of soil and grass lying there from the very first tree clearance and driveway opening up works in February 2022 that we just never managed to get around to, we also relocated the scaffold to an area where it’ll be less in the way.
Create a photographic record of the mill internally and externally.
Tidy up the mill, cottage, caravan to make additional space
Board up windows on the cottage to stop birds coming in to nest.
Prop the fan house door and clear most of the vegetation off the mill including the fan house gable and around the base at rear especially
Clean the 1985 model of dirt, mould and rot
Remove and clear the dead branches of the alder over the caravan - this was a mad night-time job
Build a house for equipment
Put up an awning for the caravan and build a deck on the inside. (This obviously sparked minus temperatures, snow blizzards and two weeks of rain - we actually had to drive down at 10pm, at 40km/h due to snow, frost and gales to shake snow off the roof. Why not just take it down I hear you ask. We've cat-proofed it all below the deck - huge hassle).
Do more work on the post box - this is turning out to be an endless job and we will be bringing an endless video to match… it's nearly there now.
There are a few bits and bobs left to do. We’ve been working hard on the planning application for the wastewater system which went in to the council with Friday's post.
Fingers crossed for that!!!
